In June of 1988, Pastor Fred Vernon moved to Groves Texas from Indiana to start a church in the Port Arthur area.

We held our first services in a Sunday School room at Val Verde Baptist Church in Groves.

As the church grew, we moved into our own building located at 3200 Thomas Blvd., in Port Arthur.

During our time there, we started a Christian school. The school was short lived. The economy had shifted to a downward spiral. We were forced to close the doors of the school.

We served the Lord there for five years. In October of 1993 we were asked to move. The owners of the building decided to sale the property. The church was given one month to find a meeting place and a home for the Pastor and his family. The week of Thanksgiving in 1993, we found a place to meet and a home. Oh Praise the Lord for His goodness.

We started our meetings at the old Wyatts Cafeteria on Gulfway Dr. Then owned by Mrs. Whittiker. She charged us $50. a month, to help us to save money for our building. Sometimes we were unable to meet in the building for services. Other doors were opened for us to meet. God always provided.

In the Spring of 1994 we found a church building to rent located at 827 Williams Ave. in Port Arthur. During that time the name of the church was changed from Thomas Blvd. Baptist , to Alpha & Omega Baptist Church. In 2004, we opened Great Beginnings Christian School.

In November of 2006 we were able to purchase the building that we are currently worshipping in, located at 6225 Terrell St. Groves, Texas.
